Finally, an answer to your mortgage-free dream. If you don’t mind turning your house into an advertising billboard that is.
Mobile advertising company Adzookie are on the look-out for homes in high visibility areas to turn into adverts. They’ll paint the exterior of your house as a billboard ad for a minimum of three months, maximum a year, and in return will pay your mortgage whilst your home sells. Once your contract is up, Adzookie gives your home a fresh coat of paint to turn it back to the way it was before.
Within hours of the announcement, Adzookie had netted hundreds of applications from homeowners hungry to enjoy mortgage-free living in these credit crunch times.
So what will these ‘home billboards’ be advertising exactly? Well, Adzookie itself actually. It’s a young start-up company and its owners hope this campaign will generate much-needed publicity – and investment – so it can expand.
But with only an alleged $100,000 in the promotional pot to spend on the campaign in total, there’s going to be some very disappointed homeowners out there. Adzookie’s paint brush can’t makeover everyone’s homes and finances.
What will be interesting to see is how other companies seize on Adzookie’s ingenuity in using these times of austerity as an opportunity for themselves, but done in a way that’s seen as a ‘good deed’. Because who wouldn’t want to live mortgage-free for up to a year? It’s just what ‘price’ you’ll have to pay for the privilege.
If nothing else, Adzookie have certainly hit upon an idea on the rise. Just what can you do – and how far will you go – to pay the bills?
Would you plaster your car in adverts? How about turning yourself into a walking, talking mobile ad machine? We’ve all seen crazy stories about people who’ve been willing to – and have actually had – adverts and logos tattooed on their bodies to earn money. Maybe Adzookie’s campaign shows the time is ripe to think outside the box.
