Today the much hyped Nano was launched. The NY Times declared it "The four wheel dream for millions of drivers."
But looking closer at the Nano - and Nano theory suggests one must look very closely - there is an amazing and dynamic automotive industry taking shape in India. I've been to India a few times lately and I have seen it for myself.
StrawberryFrog is currently working with Mahindra, which is the leading maker of SUVs and Crossovers in India, and will help the brand launch their vehicles in the USA later this year working closely together with the US distributor Global Vehicles in Atlanta. Global Vehicles has done tremendous work in preparation for this launch.
In February this year, the WSj reported: Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., India's biggest sport-utility vehicle maker by sales, Tuesday said it's on track to enter the U.S. market with its Scorpio SUV by the end of 2009 despite slowing sales in the world's biggest automobile market. Mahindra plans also to start selling light trucks in India through a joint venture with a unit of U.S.-based Navistar International Corp. by December, Pawan Goenka, president of Mahindra's automotive business, told Dow Jones Newswires in a telephone interview.Mr. Goenka said also that the company's vehicle sales in the fourth quarter through March will exceed that of the third quarter. "There is no delay in the (U.S.) project," Mr. Goenka said. "We are starting the process of homologating (testing) the Scorpio this month, which usually takes about six-seven months." Mahindra has an agreement with U.S.-based Global Vehicles Inc. to export-fully built units of the Scorpio.
