The ever-imaginative and extraordinarily well-connected Mark Chalmers and Daniele Fianda created Creative Social as an informal global underground get-together for the leading digital creatives around the world. It pops up in a global destination every now and then. A very selective invitation-only email makes its way to your inbox. It's gaining some incredible traction, and this year Creative Social has a global sponsor in the form of Microsoft.
I once attended their session a few years back on the beach in Cannes.
This past weekend, the destination was Sao Paulo, Brazil. Here is what the event featutred:
29/30th November 2007 Drosophyla, Rua Pedro Taques 80, Sao Paulo.
AGENDA
Creative Social Sao Paulo includes 5 fantastic inspiration speakers bringing us Socials a big dose of Brazilian craft and culture to our meeting. A festival of film, fashion, technology and art. We have the ever-popular round table discussions, plenty of social breaks and dinners and, courtesy of MSN, our Creative Social dinner on the Thursday night.
”That’s me that is”
Our chance to catch up with what’s hot and what’s not in the global output of the Creative Socials. A way to recognize each other through our work. Send a link through to Daniele of your latest masterpiece and take a minute to take us Socials through it.
Proving there’s life beyond advertising, we are delighted to welcome Alexandre Machado.
A former advertising copywriter, Alexandre has penned his way to becoming one of the most significant and prolific scriptwriters in Brazil. Os Normais (The normal people) is considered the most important and hilarious Brazilian sitcom ever produced. Not bad for a former wordsmith we say. The series depicted a normal middle-class couple and their day-byday stories, dramas and paranoia. Alexandre started his career as an advertising copywriter and quit when he won a Cannes Lion, he said it just wasn’t as great as he had expected it to be.
Director of the Center for Technology & Society (CTS) at the Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV) Law School in Rio de Janeiro, Project Lead for the Creative Commons in Brazil, working with Brazilian Federal Government, Ministry of Culture and appointed by the Ministry of Justice to its electronic commerce commission.
We are proud to bring you Ronaldo Lemos. To sort of summise, Professor Lemos has a lot of letters after his name, is heading up a lot of societies and is seriously qualified in law, technology, commerce and intellectual property. Admirably as chairman of iCommons, Ronaldo is channeling this wealth of knowledge to the wealth of others, sort of open source everything. A positive use of today’s technology that we know we can all learn
from. Notebooks ready people.
Continuing our tradition of showcasing the most talented artists of our destination cities we are delighted to announce SPETO. With an eye on the past and his finger on the future, SPETO at 35 years old, is one of Brazil’s most popular and talented street artists. His graffiti style is refreshingly unique blending traditional Brazilian woodcarving styles with textures and figurative imagery. Working in a variety of mediums, including murals, illustration, and graphics, SPETO is central player in the wake of ‘Banksy syndrome’ with the traditional auction houses including Sotheby’s clambering to create street art categories. Graffiti is now ‘official’. Vice Magazine interview, fact magazine, Speto’s myspace
Director, producer & writer, we welcome Andrucha Waddington. With a string of awards from Cannes, Havana, through Brazil to Sundance, Andrucha is not only a partner at Conspiracy Films, one of the most prestigious production companies in Brazil but one of the most talented guys in Brazilian film production right now. Here’s the lowdown. Our event president, Fernanda’s firm favourite is Waddington’s ‘Eu, tu, eles’, - Me, You, Them - a true story that comically depicts the relationship between an ordinary woman and her three husbands. Hmmmm. See here for an interview
One of the most respected movers and shakers in fashion in Brazil, we welcome journalist Camila Yahn.
Camila’s blog is a fashionista’s bible to the Portuguese community and she’s recently added to her activity Pense Moda, a major fashion event where the industry
comes together with trend spotters, designers, marketeers and brands to discuss fashion, more specifically, Brazilian fashion. It started this Sunday, it’s a big deal, and we are sure Camila will have a lot to report back.
The event was held in here.
