TOP MARKETING BLOGS - ANOTHER LIST
Forbes has one. The viral garden has a list. A guy named Evan Carmichael has a list. There is even the marketing bloggers choice awards. Last week a new and comprehensive list of 150 top marketing blogs was unvieled by Ad Age.
Here is the yardstick Ad Age used to select this new list.
"The Power 150 is a ranking of the top English-language media and marketing blogs in the world, as developed by marketing executive and blogger, Todd Andrlik. It's really as simple as that, except that the name isn't strictly accurate: It currently ranks more than 500 blogs written about all types of media and pretty much every imaginable marketing discipline."

At the top was Seth Godin. His blog - Seth's Blog - was ranked number one. I'm a fan of his books and his blog. His best thinking however is found on Youtube if you google his Google presentation. The blog is good, but some of the postings seem to be more 'well, what am I going to keep my audience inspired with today?' kind of postings. The golden nuggets have to be pruned. The Youtube vids are top notch.
Here is an example of one of his postings:
The (stupid) diet
My friend Chris told me about a diet he used to use to lose weight. He would eat what he wanted five days a week and fast two days a week.
No, that doesn't work.
The parallel to marketing seems pretty obvious, doesn't it?
What's becoming clear as a result of this list is how much information is pouring out from people who are marketers, marketing professionals, marketing students, marketing thinkers, marketing journalists, marketing professors, and people who just like to write about marketing just as regular people like to write about sports.
Yours truly figures in here somewhere. Probably in the last section, although I have been working in this business for over 20 years.
I would augment this broad list with a very selective list of some very inspiring blogs that are writing in English but aren't based in the US or UK, blogs like Brussels based FutureLab which does a very nice job cherry picking from some of the most interesting and wonderful marketing bloggers from around the world.
